About this place
At THE TRAM, part of the pleasure of ordering fish and chips is choosing the fish. The menu features cod from Miyagi, pike conger from Ehime and spear squid from Nagasaki, each making for a different plate. One diner who chose the pike conger at lunch said the plain, fresh taste of the accompanying green peas worked well with the fried fish, while tartare sauce and vinegar offered a change of flavour. The portion was said to be well suited to sharing, so a group of two or three could split it and add a few other dishes to the table.
Another diner recalled the cod fish and chips as flaky and tender beneath its batter, with the homemade tartare sauce also making an impression. The dish can be enjoyed with its sauce or a dash of vinegar, as well as in different fish varieties. It is a natural choice for anyone seeking a British-style plate.
Pizza is another option. The margherita combines mozzarella and buffalo mozzarella with basil and tomato sauce. One customer described it as a piping-hot pizza with a satisfyingly chewy crust. The homemade salsiccia pizza comes with a choice of white or tomato sauce, offering a different sort of centrepiece alongside the fish dishes.
To build out the meal with a few dishes, consider the Greek salad of Hokkaido fruit tomatoes, feta and olives, or a salad of Nara figs and French cured ham. One diner enjoyed the latter alongside a mozzarella salad. A plate of vegetables makes an easy addition to a table of fish or pizza.
For something more substantial, there is bangers and mash, or roast sirloin of beef with Madeira sauce. One diner reported enjoying the Sunday roast, and the menu offers choices for lunch or dinner, depending on the occasion and appetite. Breakfast is also listed.
Drinks include Guinness and Brau Meister, as well as wines by the glass. One diner paired Brau Meister with the pike conger fish and chips; another enjoyed wine with pizza and salad. It is a good setting for choosing a drink to accompany the food.
One customer mentioned a seat by the window at the back of the restaurant, with a view of the Hankai tram. If you would like to take in the streetcar while you eat, you might keep that spot in mind.
